Thirteen puppies born at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta now have handles – and all start with the letter J – thanks to 16,000 entries from kids across Canada.

They might not look so tough right now, but one day they’ll be sniffing out drugs and bombs or tracking down bad guys.

The name the puppy contest is an annual tradition at the RCMP’s main training centre for K9 members. Mounties announced the winning names this week. They are:

  • Jango
  • Jolt
  • Jade
  • Jorgia
  • Jude
  • Jix
  • Jett
  • Jax
  • Juno
  • Java
