A 16-year-old boy died after being thrown from a bucking horse and then accidentally stomped by the animal, Mounties in Alberta said over the weekend.

The teen, identified by witnesses and friends as Ben Steiger of Turner Valley, Alta. south of Calgary, was practising for the saddle bronc event at the Thorsby Haymaker Rodeo south of Edmonton when he fell off the horse at 4:47 p.m April 5. He was taking part in a junior rodeo training school, and according to the Calgary Herald, dreamed of being a rodeo champion.
