Bella’s Bucket List: Robert Kugler takes his dying dog on road trip of a lifetime

UPDATE: Oct. 29, 2016.

We are sad to report that Bella the dog, whose owner, Robert Kugler, was taking her on a bucket-list road-trip and gained a huge social media following in the process, has passed away.

“I told her I Loved her…and left feeling fulfilled…and at peace. Perhaps this peace…has been what I’ve been searching for all along,” Kugler says.

Below is our original story from July.

Every dog owner loves their dogs. But Robert Kugler loves his chocolate lab, diagnosed with cancer, so much he’s taking Bella on one last amazing car ride.

When Bella was diagnosed with cancer in May, 2015, veterinarians recommended amputating one of her front legs.

Then, when she was given under a year lot live, Kugler, who describes himself as self-employed in Nebraska decided to hit the road. Nine-year-old Bella would have one last amazing head out the window, tongue flapping adventure.

Kugler is posted photos of their journey on Facebook, writing:

“After Losing a Leg to Cancer in May of 2015 and given 3-6months to live due to the cancer in her lungs….Bella joined me on an adventure across the country to explore this great land, visit many friends, encourage others to get out and explore, inspire those with disabilities to continue to Love their lives and enjoy the moment, and of course, to simply enjoy each other’s company.”

But with so much misery in the world, Kugler hopes their story will also give the world a little of what it needs right now: love.

From Bradenton, Florida, he just posted this update.

Bella’s had some wonderful moments; experiences that have wowed Kugler. Like this encounter in Clearwater, Florida over the weekend.

And this one on the beach in Siesta Key, Florida. When a recent amputee met Bella saying, “Hey, there ol girl, I can relate!”
