Canine therapy: how a dog eases the impact of Alzheimer’s disease

Over the past few days, almost 4 million people have watched a touching video showing a dog that seemingly, miraculously, helps heal an elderly man who suffers from a degenerative brain disease. The 90-second video, “My Dad With Our Dog,” has provoked an outpouring of tears and applause for pet therapy.

“My father has Alzheimers,” wrote Lisa Abeyta, who uploaded the video to YouTube. “This is what happens when he is with our dog.” Watch what happens to a man robbed of his voice when a beloved pet enters the room.
