Caution: Grizzly plays strong man with a bear trap

Forget strong as an ox. A new video released by Alberta Parks shows that bears are top dog in the strength department.

Remote camera footage captured earlier this month by Kananaskis Country conservation officer Glenn Naylor shows precisely why you don’t want to get too close to a bear. And, why you should always stay in your car. This curious bear moved a bear trap about 10 metres, according to the Calgary Herald.

“Bear traps weigh hundreds of pounds, and this bear tosses it around like it’s a toy!” notes the video, which was uploaded to YouTube this week.

Naylor also provides some more interesting background for curious viewers.

“The bear was not recently released, it just showed up. The trap is empty. Standard procedure when we need to close it for a while. traps are very heavy and hard to move, so closing them is what’s done if trapping continues. Has been done countless times over the years. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened! The smell from the old bait would have still been there.”
