A Dallas woman has told police that she shot and killed her husband for abusing their family cat so severely that the feline has a broken jaw and broken rib.
Mary Harrison, 47, went to jail but has since been released on bail.
The cat Smokey and a family dog have been taken into protective custody by the SPCA of Texas.
The cat has undergone surgery.
Harrison admitted to shooting her husband Dexter last month. He was taken to hospital and later died from his wounds.
