Grizzly attack in Fernie, B.C. leaves man in critical condition

A hunter who was out in the Fernie area was attacked by a grizzly bear Sunday morning.

The 56-year-old man was mauled as he and a hunting partner was out in the woods.

Conservation Service Officers responded and found the victim injured by the boar grizzly bear.

During the attack, according to the Ministry of Environment in a statement Sunday, the victim’s hunting partner shot and killed the bear.

The victim was transported to Calgary’s Foothills Hospital by STARS helicopter and was in stable condition Sunday night.

The other hunter was not injured.

Ministry officials say the bear was a boar and it is believed to be the only bear involved.
