Heroic cat battles vicious dog to save young boy

The family cat saved a 4-year-old California boy from a dog attack by pouncing on the canine and chasing it away.

The video, “My Cat Saved My Son,” which was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday by the father of the victim, has already had attracted nearly 6 million viewers and media attention from around the world.

“My cat defends my son during a vicious dog attack and runs the dog off before he can do additional damage,” Roger Triantafilo noted about on the video he posted. “Thankfully, my son is fine!”

Surveillance cameras captured the attack on Tuesday in Bakersfield, Calif.  Triantafilo’s son, Jeremy, is riding his bike in the driveway when a neighbour’s dog sneaks around a vehicle and bites the boy on his left leg. He is dragged off his bike. That’s when Tara, the family’s cat, runs into the fray, throwing itself at the dog and chasing it away. Jeremy manages to get up after the ordeal.

The lad’s mother, Erica, runs to him and then to see the dog’s whereabouts.

“After checking his wounds she made sure the dog did not return for a second attempt,” Roger explains in a comment posted on YouTube. “The owners were there also and she was bit by the dog as she tried to pin him in his yard. The owners did get control of the dog and secured him in which she immediately returned to attending to our son. I did not include that video because it was not so much about the dog but about the cat’s actions.”

Jeremy suffered bite wounds and required several stitches, but is otherwise okay.

The dog has been identified as an 8-month-old labrador-chow mix by local ABC station KERO and will be euthanized.

Jeremy later told KERO:  “Tara is my hero.”

And, Tara now has a Facebook page so you can get all your hero cat action and updates.
