I didn’t know I was pregnant, or at least my zookeepers didn’t

Nobody noticed that 24-year-old Shinda, a gorilla at the Prague Zoo, was pregnant. After a number miscarriages, zookeepers figured she always be childless.

But on Saturday morning, she surprised everyone and gave birth to a healthy baby.

Her pregnancy remained hidden thanks to her appetite – and slightly pudgy appearance, zookeepers said.

The gender of the baby hasn’t been determined, but so far, it appears to be thriving and is perfectly healthy.

“Shinda is very happy mother,” the zoo said. “And we all are happy with her!”

“I do not want to jinx it,” the zoo’s director Miroslav Bobek wrote. “but it seems that here and there, a miracle really can happen.”
