Every so often we bring a new garment home from a store and notice a flaw. But never usually as bad as on woman in New York now claims in a lawsuit against fast-fashion retailer Zara.
Cailey Fiesel, 24, said she bought a dress from Zara only to find much later a dead rodent, either a rat or a mouse, sewn into the seam.
“I saw the little leg that was coming out of the seam that I had touched, which was really horrifying,” the woman told the New York Post from her lawyer’s office. “I froze — I was paralyzed with fear.”
“She bought the black scoop-neck dress for $40 in Greenwich, Conn. in July. She wore the dress, according to the newspaper, a few weeks later, only then noticing a “disturbingly pungent odor,” according to the lawsuit filed Friday in the Manhattan Supreme Court.
The 11-page lawsuit even includes photos of the offending garment and associated deceased rodent. It’s unclear if the rodent was dead or alive when it became part of the dress. Either way, ewwwwwww.
No specific damages are specified, but her lawyers argue the retailer owed her a dress “free from defects, including rodent infestations.”
She says she developed a rash diagnosed as a “rodent-born disease” and emotional trauma.
And little wonder. Look at this.
A spokesperson for Zara USA said the company is investigating. Meanwhile, people are having a field day with the case of the rather distressing dress on social media.
