Soon, more than 500 people retweeted the photo and almost 1,500 tagged it as a favorite.
Dog lovers swooned, some posting photos of their own prized pets. Political watchers chimed in with orders that the First Dogs turn their attention to the opposition: “Republicans! Sic ’em!” one poster wrote. High praise for the Portuguese Water Dogs also came from the editors of Dog Fancy magazine.
