We love Neko Case. Not only because she lives on a farm in Vermont with animals. We love her because she once called herself a “critter.” She donates a portion of her record sales to animal shelters. Now Slate has put together a compilation of her best animal songs after dissecting her body of work and concluding that her greatest songs are her animal songs. But it’s not only dogs and chickens and horses Case is fond of, she’s also kinda fond of megafauna like tigers and killer whales. Every animal ever mentioned in a Neko Case song has been cited on a definitive list including two magpies, one mockingbird and even a whippoorwill.
