What’s a real Seahawk?

So the Seattle Seahawks are going to the Superbowl.

This is pretty big news, according to my inebriated neighbour Dave yesterday afternoon.

Our immediate thoughts: Wow, two critter teams facing off against each other and we may be the only news site today that has made that connection.

Here are Critter Files, we wondered if a sea hawk is a real critter and it turns out they are.

The sea hawk is the nickname for Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), says 10,000 Birds.

This large, long-winged bird of prey cuts a striking figure, dark chocolate brown above and white below with a strong black line through its eye. This color scheme is obviously a bit more understated than the blue, teal, and chartreuse palette favored by the football Seahawks, but seems to work well for the raptor.

And don’t worry, no favourites here at Critter Files. We’ll do a post next on what’s a bronco?
