To celebrate Prince George’s third birthday today, the Royal family has released new photographs of the precocious preschooler.
When Matt Porteous snapped the images of the young prince at The Duke and Duchess’s family home in Norfolk, nobody probably predicted a backlash. The picnic scene with the family pet, Lupo, is what everyone is talking about.

Adorable right? Wrong.
Animal lovers are pointing out a doggie don’t. Prince George appears to be offering the royal cocker spaniel an ice cream treat.
And now, Prince William and Kate are being accused of “animal cruelty.”
The RSPCA even weighed in warning against feeding dogs ice cream, saying in a statement: “It is lovely that Prince George is trying to help keep his family dog, Lupo, cool in these high temperatures.
The animal welfare group adding: “We would advise people to be cautious when giving their dogs food meant for human consumption as some items, like chocolate, can be highly toxic to dogs and dairy items can be difficult for them to digest. Instead of ice cream we would suggest making an ice lolly from pet friendly ingredients. Making these can be really fun for children and the end product is both safe and enjoyable for dogs.”
The Twitterverse was slightly less diplomatic.
Prince George needs chucking in prison for feeding that dog an ice cream, irresponsible animal cruelty paid for by the taxpayer

Okay, okay. We get it. Rest assured, the young prince will never make this mistake — at least on camera — again. So, back to the gorgeous dog.

This isn’t the first time the third in line to the throne has been photographed with the family pet.
Back in 2014, the world was gaga over this photo taken by Jason Bell.
And this handout photo, taken by Michael Middleton, shows Prince George, about one-month-old at Catherine’s family home with Lupo, and Middleton family pet, Tilly.
But back to the birthday boy.
Here are some other images released by Kensington Palace to mark the occasion. Sporting clothing that will surely fly off store shelves.
