Ban, a two-year-old mixed breed dog, was first plucked from debris floating on the water in the aftermath of Japan’s 2011 tsunami. It landed in an animal shelter in Miyagi Prefecture, where miraculously, it was reunited with its owner who recognized her wayward pooch in television footage. The owner pledged a boatload of treats for her lost – then found – companion.
