Richard Jones snapped this amazing photograph when he and his family were alligator watching while in the Ocala National Forest.
This is what Jones thinks happened. His son startled the raccoon, the critter stumbled toward the water and hopped on top of the alligator that was nearby.
Remember the picture of the weasel on the woodpecker? Sometimes you got to be in the right place at the right time.
Before the raccoon and alligator rode away together into the sunset, Jones was able to snap the unique photograph.
Shortly afterwards, the raccoon hopped off and got back on land.
In an email sent to WFTV, Jones said he knew the picture had to be taken.
“I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you’d think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing…Definitely the photo of a lifetime.
