Whatever the reason, it couldn’t have been easy for Abby’s family.
The 12-year-old beagle recently arrived at a Virginia animal shelter with her bed, her toys, two bags of sweaters, a dozen years worth of vet records, and, a framed portrait of herself.
The Sanctuary Rescue in Midlothian said earlier this month it rescued this “sweet gal” from a local animal shelter where she had been for a week.
“We don’t know, didn’t meet, and had no interactions with her former family,” the sanctuary posted on social media. “From what we understand from the shelter there were some major life changes that prevented them from keeping their pets at this time and it wasn’t necessarily something a gofundme would fix.”
And so, Abby came into its care.
She was warmly welcomed at the sanctuary where they could get to know her and veterinarian would assess her needs.
Abby is now in a foster home with a lot of experience with senior dogs.
She quickly “made herself right at home.”
She tried out every single dog bed in the home.
“She thinks she’s Goldilocks,” the rescue added.
The small, foster-based rescue said Abby will be available for adoption soon.
Meantime, the sanctuary shared a heartwarming St. Patrick’s Day post of dear Abby.
“Top o’ the mornin to ya!” it wrote. “Abby’s here to wish everyone a lean, mean, green St. Paddy’s Day!”
And now, Sanctuary Rescue is treating Abby’s story as a life lesson for us all.
“We’re thinking of hanging the dog’s portrait in our office to remind us to be humble, to give grace, to spend energy on loving instead of judging, and to always help where and when we can because you just never know what the future holds and what curveballs life might throw at you,” the group wrote.
