Bear-y scary: Bear chases skier at Romanian ski resort

Skiers usually get a rush when they see wildlife at resort, but never do they expect to be racing one on a run.

In late January, a skier was captured on video being chased by a bear at the popular Predeal Ski Resort in Romania.

David Creta posted the video he took of the bizarre and frightening ordeal Jan. 23. He was riding the chairlift when the bear gave chase along the Clabucet run.

“At that moment I was going up with the chairlift to snowboard from the top and I caught this moment with the phone’s camera,” he posted on social media, also apologizing for the “poor quality.”

No matter, more than 1.1 million people have watched the incredible footage.

Throughout the video, you can hear whistling and yelling as all heads on the chairlift turn to watch the encounter.

Digi24 reported people screaming, “Give it faster, give it faster! Come on, the bear is chasing you! Give it faster! God forbid, don’t look back!”

“Everyone was screaming and whistling to scare the bear but he didn’t give up,” Creta wrote. “Finally, the skier threw away his backpack to escape and the bear remained at the backpack, maybe searching for some food.”

The County Inspectorate of Gendarmerie also told Digi24 the skier did the right thing by throwing the bag to distract the bear.

The skier got away safe and sound — on what can only be described as a next level black diamond run of a lifetime.

It’s not the first time a bear has visited the resort.

In Jan. 2018, two bears were also caught in video on the same run.

The Romania Mountain Rescue Department (Salvamont Romania) posted a video of the bears on Facebook with a warning. “Salvamont Predeal notes that the presence of two bears was signaled in the forests near the Clabucet ski slope, as well as on the slope. We recommend tourists to pay more attention when in this area.”
