Celebrate #WorldAnimalDay with improved welfare standards for critters around the globe

All over the world, World Animal Day is being celebrated today.

The event started big back in 1925 when the first World Animal Day was organized for March 25 in Berlin, Germany. More than 5,000 people attended the first event.

The event was originally scheduled for Oct 4  to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology, however the venue was not available on that day and didn’t change to Oct 4 until four years later.

In 1931, World Animal Day was made universal by a declaration from the International Animal Protection Congress.

Today, the day is used to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe and mobilizing  a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.

It’s celebrated in different ways in every country, irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology.

The goal is through increased awareness and education a world is created where animals are always recognized as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare.
