Surf Life Saving in Western Australia has figured out an innovative way to let swimmers know when a shark is close to them.
They’ve tagged each of the 338 sharks with tracking devices connected to a Twitter account.
So here’s the kind of tweet that gets sent out when one of the sharks are close:
Fisheries advise: tagged Tiger shark detected at Warnbro Sound receiver at 10:39:00 AM on 13-Feb-2014
Nearly 40,000 followers are on the Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed and it seems every couple of minutes there’s an update. So now you can swim in the ocean and still stay on Twitter.
